In honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is shining a spotlight on the dedicated educators who play a crucial role in leading ocean stewardship efforts in schools across the country. These teachers, known as NOAA Ocean Guardian Teachers, are at the forefront of inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards and conservationists.
NOAA’s Ocean Guardian School program aims to empower students to take an active role in protecting the ocean and its resources through hands-on projects and initiatives. These projects range from beach clean-ups and water quality monitoring to habitat restoration and marine debris reduction efforts. One such example of a successful Ocean Guardian School project is the wetland observation program led by Lisa de Kozan at Mark West Elementary School.
