Israel's President Taps Gadi Eisenkot to Form New Government in Setback for Netanyahu

Israeli President Yair Netanyahu has officially tasked Gadi Eisenkot, the leader of the opposition Yashar party and former military chief, with forming the next government, marking a significant political shift following the recent election. This decision comes after a period of uncertainty where neither Eisenkot nor the incumbent Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, secured a clear majority in the Knesset. According to multiple reports, the move was driven by recommendations from Israel's main political parties, who advised the President to appoint Eisenkot to lead the coalition-building process. Eisenkot, who ran as the primary challenger to Netanyahu, now faces the complex challenge of assembling a stable governing coalition from a fragmented parliament. The announcement represents a major setback for Prime Minister Netanyahu, who had hoped to retain power. While the President's choice signals a potential change in leadership, the path forward remains uncertain as Eisenkot must now navigate the delicate negotiations required to secure a majority. **References** * https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israel-election-government-gadi-eisenkot-benjamin-netanyahu/ * https://www.npr.org/2026/11/07/g-s1-152536/israels-president-taps-opposition-candidate-eisenkot-to-form-a-government-in-setback-for-netanyahu * https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiwAFBVV95cUxQVHIwVVZqTlgycHFJTEhPM3g1WU5oWWtKelZsNW5aUEphdmpDRC1STjMxQmYyYjR5dkNZUVFiVFBfZ3J1Nm9HN0RmM25pOUlTMWJkWGZuVktLV3h5QkNmdEtrbUt5X2NBYXFuZC04TzhPZUJWLWVJeWJMM256ZWIxRENRczhNdEtIa2I2aF85VzJUejZMa1ZvVEFSZXZCQWJtZU1nTnBvaVl4cmNJTEhfcWpCNTFjMmotS090TzE1eXc?oc=5&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en * https://www.npr.org/2026/11/07/g-s1-152536/netanyahu-israel-government-eisenkot-herzog #NexSouk #AIForGood #EthicalAI #GlobalPolitics #CoalitionCrisis **Political Bias Index:** Green (Neutral)
