Democratic Socialists Sweep Key US Cities: Chakrabarti, Haider, and Raman Win Historic Seats

A significant shift in the United States political landscape has occurred over the past hour, marked by the victories of three Democratic socialist candidates in major American cities. In California, Saikat Chakrabarti, a progressive state senator, has won the congressional seat previously held by Nancy Pelosi. Simultaneously, in Illinois, Saba Haider, an India-born Democrat, secured a seat in the Illinois House. Most notably, in Los Angeles, Nithya Raman, also an India-born Democratic socialist, defeated incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the mayoral race. These results mean that America's two most populous cities, New York and Los Angeles, will now be led by Democratic socialists, according to reports from BBC News. The victories represent a consolidation of power for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party in key metropolitan areas. In California, the win by Saikat Chakrabarti follows his tenure as a leading advocate for transgender rights and other progressive causes. In Illinois, Saba Haider's victory highlights the growing influence of immigrant communities in state politics, with her family hailing from the Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, India. In Los Angeles, Nithya Raman's upset victory over Mayor Karen Bass signals a major realignment in local governance, with the city now under the leadership of a Democratic socialist. The convergence of these events suggests a rapid and decisive change in the political direction of several major US jurisdictions. ### References 1. Internewscast.
