As winter settles in, several states in the United States are facing winter weather advisories due to the forecasted snow and ice. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories for different regions, warning residents about the potential hazards of slippery road conditions and urging caution during commutes.
In New Jersey, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Sussex County, with mixed precipitation expected to bring total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze. The advisory is in effect from 4 AM to 7 PM EST on Tuesday, impacting the morning and evening commutes.
Similarly, in Missouri, counties such as Callaway, Cole, Osage, Gasconade, and Montgomery are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 9 PM CST, with additional snow accumulations of up to one inch expected, leading to slippery road conditions.
Further north in Pennsylvania, Carbon and Monroe Counties are also under a Winter Weather Advisory, with total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze. The advisory is in effect from 4 AM to 6 PM EST on Tuesday, affecting the morning and evening commutes.
In West Virginia, a Winter Weather Advisory covers portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and central, northeast, northern, southeast, southern, and western West Virginia until 1 PM EST on Tuesday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, along with a light glaze of ice, are expected, leading to slippery road conditions and impacting the morning commute.
In addition to the snow and ice advisories, a Flood Advisory has been issued for southern Mississippi, including Harrison and Jackson counties, due to excessive rainfall causing minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. The advisory is in effect until 11:15 PM CST, with additional rainfall expected to result in further flooding.
Meanwhile, in Hawaii, a High Surf Advisory is in place for north and west-facing shores of several islands, with large breaking waves of up to 20 feet along north-facing shores and up to 15 feet along west-facing shores. The advisory warns of dangerous swimming conditions until 6 AM HST on Tuesday.
As winter weather impacts various regions, residents are advised to stay informed about changing conditions, drive cautiously on slippery roads, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the inclement weather.
