As winter approaches, various regions in the United States are experiencing a range of weather advisories and statements issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). From snowfall warnings to dense fog alerts, these weather events are impacting different areas with potentially hazardous conditions.
In north central and northwest Missouri, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued until midnight CST Saturday night. The advisory warns of mixed precipitation with total snow accumulations of up to 4 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze. Additionally, winds gusting as high as 35 mph could lead to slippery road conditions in the affected areas.
Similarly, in western and south central North Dakota, residents are advised to prepare for snowfall. The Winter Weather Advisory in these regions is in effect until 6 AM CST Saturday, with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches expected. Locally higher snowfall of up to 4 inches may occur in specific counties, leading to potentially slippery road conditions.
In Goodland, Kansas, a Special Weather Statement has been issued due to dense fog located south of I-70 and west of Highway 83. Reports indicate visibility as low as 60-500ft in Greeley and Wichita counties. The dense fog is forecasted to linger for a few hours before gradually dissipating, affecting travel and visibility in the area.
Moving to Illinois, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Edwards, Jefferson, Wabash, and Wayne counties until midnight CST Saturday night. Wet snow is expected with total accumulations between 1 and 3 inches, posing risks of slippery road conditions for residents in these areas.
Along the coastal regions of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami Dade counties in Florida, a Rip Current Statement and High Surf Advisory have been issued. Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet are expected, leading to hazardous swimming and surfing conditions as well as localized beach erosion.
In northwest Arkansas and parts of Oklahoma, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 3 PM CST Saturday. South winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph could result in blowing objects and downed tree limbs, particularly affecting high-profile vehicles.
These weather advisories and statements highlight the importance of staying informed and prepared for changing weather conditions. Residents in the affected areas are urged to exercise caution, monitor local forecasts, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
