As the winter season approaches, various states across the United States are currently experiencing severe weather conditions, prompting the issuance of multiple weather alerts. From dense fog advisories to flash flood warnings, residents in different regions are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the evolving weather patterns.
In Oklahoma, a Special Weather Statement was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Norman, highlighting a strong thunderstorm moving northeast at 35 mph near Calumet. The storm is expected to bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph and penny-sized hail, potentially causing minor damage to outdoor objects and tree limbs.
In Tennessee and Pennsylvania, Dense Fog Advisories have been issued by the NWS in Huntsville and State College, respectively. Visibility is reduced to one quarter mile or less, posing hazardous driving conditions until 9 AM CST or EST. The fog may be accompanied by a light glaze of ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses, further increasing the risk for drivers.
Meanwhile, in Texas, the NWS in Austin/San Antonio has issued a Flash Flood Warning for areas where thunderstorms are producing heavy rain. Up to 3.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 1.5 inches possible, leading to life-threatening flash flooding in creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and streets. The warning emphasizes the imminent danger posed by the ongoing or expected flash flooding.
Additionally, a Flood Advisory has been issued for Gillespie County in south-central Texas, where excessive rainfall is expected to cause small stream flooding. Doppler radar indicates heavy rain from thunderstorms, with up to 1 inch of rain already fallen and an additional 2 inches anticipated. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is likely in the affected locations.
These weather alerts underscore the importance of staying vigilant and prepared during adverse weather conditions. Residents are advised to monitor local news outlets and official weather sources for updates, follow safety guidelines, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible to ensure their well-being and that of others.
