As winter approaches, several regions in the United States are currently experiencing severe weather conditions, prompting the issuance of various weather advisories and warnings by the National Weather Service (NWS). From snowfall to freezing temperatures, these weather events are expected to impact travel and daily activities in affected areas.
In Tennessee and Virginia, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued until Tuesday morning, with additional snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches. Locally higher totals are possible on the tallest ridges and peaks, accompanied by winds gusting up to 35 mph. The hazardous conditions could lead to slippery road conditions, affecting Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.
In the Smoky Mountains region, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Tuesday morning, with heavy snow expected. An additional 6 to 9 inches are possible in the highest peaks, while 4 to 6 inches could accumulate elsewhere. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph further exacerbate the conditions, posing risks to road safety and travel.
In North Carolina and South Carolina, a Freeze Warning has been issued for portions of the states, with sub-freezing temperatures expected to range from 25 to 31 degrees. Frost and freeze conditions could potentially harm crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing if left unprotected.
Meanwhile, in Arizona, a Freeze Warning has been issued for areas including the Sulphur Springs Valley and St. David and Benson regions. Near to sub-freezing temperatures ranging from 29 to 34 degrees are anticipated, with potential impacts on crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.
Additionally, in Northern Indiana, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for lake effect snow, with additional snow accumulations of up to two inches expected. Slick and hazardous road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses, could affect the Monday evening commute.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed, exercise caution while traveling, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves, their property, and the environment.
