The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued several severe weather alerts across different regions, warning residents of potentially dangerous conditions. These alerts include a Wind Advisory, Winter Storm Watches, and Coastal Flood Statements in various parts of the United States.
In Rapid City, South Dakota, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 PM MST today. North winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected, posing risks for drivers, especially those in lightweight or high-profile vehicles. Strong winds can also cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris in the area.
In Eastern Will County, Illinois, and Lake IN and Porter Counties, Illinois, Winter Storm Watches have been issued from late Sunday night through Monday morning and Monday afternoon, respectively. Intense lake-effect snow is forecasted, with localized snow rates exceeding 2 inches per hour and event snow totals surpassing 6 inches. Northerly wind gusts over 35 mph may greatly reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
In Guam, Coastal Flood Statements and Advisories have been issued for north, east, west, and south-facing shorelines due to minor coastal flooding and hazardous surf conditions. High tide heights during periods of high tide could lead to water on low-lying roads and property, as well as dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. The combination of swell from Typhoon Fung-wong and King Tide high tide cycles may result in minor coastal inundation and increased erosion along the reefs.
These weather alerts highlight the importance of staying informed and prepared for severe weather events. Residents in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution, monitor local weather updates, and follow any instructions from authorities to ensure their safety.
