As the West Coast braces for a series of weather events, multiple National Weather Service (NWS) advisories have been issued, affecting coastal areas from California to Oregon. The alerts include Coastal Flood Advisories, High Surf Advisories, and Wind Advisories, highlighting the potential risks posed by high tides, large surf, and gusty winds.
In Northern California, Coastal Flood Advisories have been issued for Del Norte, southern Humboldt, and Mendocino Counties. The advisories warn of high astronomical tides and large surf that may cause minor to moderate flooding in low-lying areas along the coast. Saltwater inundation above ground level is possible near shorelines and tidal waterways, leading to road closures, property inundation, and shoreline erosion.
Similarly, in Oregon, the NWS has issued Coastal Flood Advisories for Coos Bay and estuaries, along with a High Surf Advisory for the South Central Oregon Coast. Large breaking waves of 20 to 25 feet are expected, creating hazardous conditions along the surf zone and potentially inundating beaches and low-lying shorelines. The impacts could include beach erosion, infrastructure damage, and road closures due to coastal flooding.
Additionally, Wind Advisories have been issued for Northern Elko County in Nevada, with gusty southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. The advisory warns of potential hazards such as blowing dust, reduced visibility, and the risk of tree limbs being blown down, leading to power outages.
Meanwhile, a Flood Watch is in effect for Guam and Rota, where excessive rainfall from a tropical disturbance, TD 32W, could result in flash flooding. Rainfall of 4 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts is possible, posing a threat to rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.
These weather alerts underscore the importance of preparedness and vigilance in the face of changing weather patterns. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed, heed official warnings, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and protect property from potential damage.
