As severe weather conditions continue to impact the western United States, multiple alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) to warn residents of potential hazards. Blowing Dust Advisories, Coastal Flood Warnings, High Surf Advisories, Wind Advisories, and High Wind Warnings are in effect for various regions, highlighting the diverse range of weather-related challenges facing communities.
In Elko County, Nevada, a Blowing Dust Advisory is in place until 7 PM PST, with visibility reduced to between one-quarter and one mile due to blowing dust. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, along with gusty winds of up to 45 mph, which could lead to tree damage and power outages.
Along the northern Washington coast and Grays Harbor County, a Coastal Flood Warning has been issued until 10 PM PST Thursday. Moderate to major coastal flooding is anticipated, with inundation of two to three feet above ground level possible. Significant impacts, including road closures, property inundation, and shoreline erosion, are expected due to high tides and storm surge.
Simultaneously, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for the same regions, with large breaking waves of 20 to 25 feet forecasted. This advisory, valid until 7 PM PST Thursday, warns of strong surf and sneaker waves that can pose dangers to beachgoers and coastal areas.
In California, Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings are prevalent. In Eureka, a Wind Advisory is active until 11 AM PST, with south winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 55 mph expected. Meanwhile, a High Wind Warning is in place for Lake, Modoc, and eastern Klamath counties in Oregon, with south winds of 35 to 45 mph and gusts up to 60 mph forecasted until 4 PM PST.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for the northern Humboldt Coast in California, predicting moderate flooding in low-lying areas due to high astronomical tides and large surf.
These weather alerts underscore the importance of preparedness and caution in the face of severe weather events. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks to life and property.
