The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple warnings for coastal flooding and high surf advisories in Washington State. The warnings, which are in effect until November 6, highlight the potential for significant impacts along the northern Washington Coast and Grays Harbor County Coast zones.
According to the NWS, moderate to major coastal flooding is expected, with inundation of 2 to 3 feet above ground level possible along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas. This flooding is due to high tides and storm surge, which could lead to numerous road closures, property inundation, and shoreline erosion or damage. Additionally, large breaking waves of 20 to 25 feet are expected, posing risks such as strong surf, sneaker waves, and localized beach erosion.
In addition to the coastal flooding warnings, a Wind Advisory has been issued for Carbon and Monroe Counties in Washington State. West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected, which could result in blowing around unsecured objects, downed tree limbs, and potential power outages.
These weather events are part of a larger system affecting the Pacific Northwest, with enhanced south-southeasterly winds strengthening in Utah and the end of a Flood Advisory in northwest California. The combination of these weather patterns underscores the importance of preparedness and caution in the face of changing weather conditions.
As communities in Washington State and surrounding areas brace for potential impacts from coastal flooding, high surf, and strong winds, it is crucial for residents to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and heed any evacuation orders or warnings issued by local authorities.
