The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of Coastal Flood Warnings and Advisories for various counties in Virginia, with severe flooding expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. These warnings and advisories highlight the imminent threat of inundation and flooding, posing a significant risk to property and life in the affected regions.
Inland Worcester County is under a Coastal Flood Advisory until 7 PM EDT, with up to one foot of inundation expected above ground level in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Shallow flooding may lead to property damage and impact roads, parking lots, parks, and lawns.
Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset Counties are under a Coastal Flood Warning until 4 AM EDT Friday, with two to three feet of inundation anticipated above ground level. Severe flooding is likely to cause extensive inundation, flooding of roads and buildings, and pose a significant threat to property and life in the area.
Similarly, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, Lancaster, Middlesex, Mathews, Western Essex, and Eastern Essex Counties are under a Coastal Flood Warning until 1 AM EDT Friday, with severe flooding expected to extend inland from the waterfront and shoreline, affecting homes, businesses, and neighborhoods.
Accomack and Northampton Counties are under a Coastal Flood Warning until midnight EDT, with around two feet of inundation projected above ground level. Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas may result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline.
Surry, Isle of Wight, and Newport News Counties are under a Coastal Flood Advisory until 9 PM EDT, with up to one half foot of inundation expected above ground level near shorelines and tidal waterways. Shallow flooding may impact low-lying areas, posing a low threat of property damage and causing dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.
In addition to the Coastal Flood Warnings and Advisories, a Frost Advisory has been issued for portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central, north central, northeast, northwest, and west central Missouri. Temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit may result in frost formation, potentially harming sensitive outdoor vegetation.
Furthermore, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for several counties in southeastern New York, including Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and South Central Westchester. Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are expected to cause flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses.
These weather alerts underscore the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during severe weather events. Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather updates and follow guidance from authorities to mitigate risks and protect themselves and their property.
