The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple severe weather alerts for various counties in southeastern Texas, including tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings. These alerts are in effect until early morning, with the potential for damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes.
According to the NWS, severe thunderstorms have been detected in several counties, including Colorado, Wharton, Austin, Grimes, Washington, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, and Harris. The storms are moving eastward at a rapid pace, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph and nickel-sized hail expected. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions as damage to roofs, siding, and trees is possible.
In addition to the severe thunderstorm warnings, tornado warnings have been issued for Grimes and Walker counties. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Bedias, moving northeast at 25 mph. The NWS warns of flying debris, damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows, and vehicles, as well as likely tree damage. Residents in these areas should seek shelter immediately.
Furthermore, a wind advisory has been issued for Del Norte County in California, with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 60 mph expected. The advisory is in effect until early afternoon, with particularly strong winds along windward ridges and exposed coastal headlands.
On the East Coast, a high surf advisory and rip current statement have been issued for coastal Volusia, mainland Northern Brevard, and Northern Brevard Barrier Islands Counties in Florida. Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet are expected, posing risks to swimmers and surfers. Localized beach erosion is also a concern.
These severe weather events highlight the importance of staying informed and prepared during extreme weather conditions. It is crucial for residents in the affected areas to heed the warnings issued by the NWS and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
