As severe weather patterns continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to ensure public safety. From coastal flood advisories to high wind warnings, residents in different states are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
In New Jersey, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Ocean and Coastal Ocean until 2 PM EDT Monday. The advisory warns of up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. While flooding of lots, parks, and roads is expected, only isolated road closures are anticipated. The tidal flooding is likely to affect back bays, including Barnegat Bay, with minimal impact along the oceanfront.
Moving south to Virginia, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for areas along a line extending from Centenary to Nathalie. Strong thunderstorms are expected, with wind gusts of up to 40 mph. These gusty winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, impacting locations such as Buckingham, Appomattox, and Brookneal.
In Guam, a Wind Advisory is in effect until noon ChST today, with east winds around 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. The advisory warns of gusty winds that could blow around unsecured objects, potentially leading to tree limbs being blown down and a few power outages. Higher elevations are likely to experience even stronger gusts.
Further along the East Coast, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the beaches north of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. Dangerous rip currents are expected from 8 AM EDT Monday through Monday evening, posing a risk to swimmers by pulling them away from shore into deeper waters. The statement highlights that strong rip currents are most likely to occur a couple of hours around low tide.
In Wyoming, multiple High Wind Warnings have been issued for different areas, including Central Carbon County, North Snowy Range Foothills, and Bordeaux area along Interstate 25. West winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are anticipated, posing transportation hazards, especially for light-weight or high-profile vehicles like campers and tractor trailers.
As severe weather events continue to unfold across the United States, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and heed the warnings issued by the National Weather Service to ensure their safety and well-being.
