Millions of Americans gathered together for “No Kings Day” protests across the country on Saturday, with elected leaders also participating in — or lampooning — the marches. About 2,600 demonstrations aimed at criticizing the Trump administration were planned across all 50 states. Protests were held in small towns and major cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, among others.
US Senator Bernie Sanders was one of the prominent figures who joined the protests, denouncing President Donald Trump and billionaires for ‘hijacking’ democracy. Sanders’ presence at the rallies underscored the growing discontent with the current administration’s policies and practices.
On the other hand, Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), have been vocal in their opposition to the protests, with Johnson addressing reporters on the 20th day of the government shutdown. The deadlock between Democrats and Republicans over funding continues to persist, with no immediate resolution in sight.
In addition to politicians, Hollywood celebrities also showed their support for the anti-Trump “No Kings” protests, further amplifying the message of dissent against the current administration.
The diverse reactions from politicians and public figures highlight the deep political divisions within the country and the growing dissatisfaction with the status quo. While some see the protests as a necessary form of resistance against perceived injustices, others view them as disruptive and counterproductive.
Overall, the ‘No Kings Day’ protests have sparked a national conversation about the state of democracy in the United States and the role of elected officials in upholding the will of the people.
