As severe weather continues to impact various regions across the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings and special weather statements in different states. On October 18, 2021, areas in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas were under the threat of severe weather conditions, including strong winds and hail.
In Arkansas, the NWS in Little Rock issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for North central Saline County and Northwestern Pulaski County, with the potential for 60 mph wind gusts causing damage to roofs, siding, and trees. A similar warning was issued in Missouri, affecting locations such as Mountain Grove, Ava, and Mansfield, with the expectation of 60 mph wind gusts causing potential damage.
In Louisiana, a strong thunderstorm was tracked near Golden, moving northeast at 45 mph, with wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch size hail. This prompted a Special Weather Statement for areas like Winnsboro and Quitman, where gusty winds could lead to minor damage to outdoor objects.
Furthermore, in Texas, a strong thunderstorm near Crockett was moving northeast at 25 mph, with wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. The NWS in Houston/Galveston issued a Special Weather Statement for Crockett and Kennard, warning of potential impacts on tree limbs and outdoor objects due to gusty winds.
Additionally, a Flood Advisory was issued in Puerto Rico for Mayaguez due to excessive rainfall causing urban and small stream flooding. The advisory highlighted the potential for minor flooding in low-lying areas and advised caution in low-water crossings.
As weather patterns continue to shift, it is essential for residents in these regions to stay informed about severe weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The NWS plays a crucial role in monitoring and issuing warnings for severe weather events, helping communities prepare and respond effectively.
