As severe weather conditions continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts warning residents of potential hazards. From coastal flooding to high surf, thunderstorms, dense fog, and freeze warnings, a range of weather phenomena is currently affecting different parts of the country.
In New Jersey, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Ocean, Coastal Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington counties. The advisory warns of up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, with potential road closures and flooding in vulnerable communities. A similar warning has been issued in Maine for Coastal Hancock and Coastal Washington counties, where high surf and rip currents pose risks to beachgoers and may cause minor beach erosion.
In California, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for strong thunderstorms in areas like Avenal, Stratford, Kettleman Hills, and Kettleman City. The storms may bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail, potentially leading to tree damage and minor hail damage to vegetation. Additionally, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Northwestern Santa Barbara County, warning of 60 mph wind gusts that could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees in locations like Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Vandenberg Space Force Base.
In Wisconsin, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for several counties, including Rock, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, Walworth, and Waukesha. The advisory warns of visibility one quarter mile or less in patchy dense fog, which could create hazardous driving conditions. Lastly, in North Dakota, a Freeze Warning has been issued for portions of north central and northwest areas, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees expected. Frost and freeze conditions could potentially harm crops and sensitive vegetation.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. By heeding the warnings and guidance provided by the NWS, individuals can better prepare for and mitigate the impacts of severe weather conditions.
