As various weather systems sweep across the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to keep residents informed and safe. From frost advisories to dense fog warnings and flood advisories, different regions are facing diverse weather challenges.
In the South Willamette Valley, Lower Columbia River, and Cowlitz River Valleys, a frost advisory has been issued by the NWS Portland, OR. Temperatures as low as 33 degrees Fahrenheit are expected, potentially causing harm to sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. This advisory is in effect until 9 AM PDT on Tuesday, October 14th.
Moving to the Grand Junction, CO area, a special weather statement has been issued due to a strong thunderstorm northeast of Castle Valley. Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail are expected, with the potential to knock down tree limbs and cause minor hail damage to vegetation. This storm is forecasted to affect mainly rural areas of southeastern Grand County.
In Caribou, ME, a high surf advisory is in place for coastal Hancock and Washington Counties. Nearshore waves of 4 to 8 feet with a wave period of 10 to 12 seconds pose a high rip current risk. Dangerous beach conditions, including rip currents and sneaker waves, could lead to minor beach erosion and potentially wash onlookers out to sea. This advisory is effective until 8 PM EDT on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in Milwaukee/Sullivan, WI, a dense fog advisory has been issued for several counties, including Sheboygan, Dodge, and Racine. Visibility as low as 1/4 mile in dense fog could create hazardous driving conditions until 10 AM CDT on Tuesday.
Lastly, flood advisories have been issued for various counties in California and Arizona. Excessive rainfall has caused urban area and small stream flooding in southeastern Alameda, eastern Contra Costa, south-central Alameda, northwestern Santa Clara, and north-central Santa Cruz. Minor flooding in creeks and normally dry washes is expected in portions of southern Navajo and Apache counties in Arizona.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed, heed the advice of local authorities, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
