As severe weather continues to impact various regions across the United States, multiple flood-related alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in different states. From Flood Watches to Flash Flood Warnings and Coastal Flood Advisories, the alerts highlight the ongoing risks posed by heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
In Southeast Arizona, a Flood Watch was issued by the NWS Tucson, covering areas such as the Baboquivari Mountains, Tucson Metro Area, and Upper Gila River Valley. The threat of flooding has now subsided, and the watch is set to expire this afternoon, as reported by the NWS.
Similarly, in San Francisco, a Flash Flood Warning was issued by the NWS due to heavy rain, although the intensity has decreased. Residents are advised to remain cautious of any remaining road closures as lighter rain may persist in the area.
On the East Coast, Coastal Flood Warnings and Statements have been issued by the NWS offices in Mount Holly, NJ, and Upton, NY. These alerts warn of potential tidal flooding and high surf, impacting vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. While tide levels have receded in some regions, minor flooding and beach erosion are expected to continue in others.
In addition, a Flood Advisory was issued for Maricopa County in south central Arizona by the NWS Phoenix. Excessive rainfall has led to minor flooding in low-lying areas, with water over roadways and ponding in urban locations. The advisory is in effect until later this evening.
Further south, a Coastal Flood Advisory was issued for Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands Counties in Texas by the NWS Corpus Christi. Minor coastal flooding is anticipated, with flooding of lots, parks, and roads expected, although isolated road closures are likely.
These alerts serve as crucial warnings for residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and stay informed about changing weather conditions. As climate change continues to influence extreme weather events, it is essential for communities to be prepared for the potential impacts of severe weather.
