As severe weather events continue to impact various regions across the United States, multiple states are currently under different weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). From floods to coastal flooding, thunderstorms, frost, and wind advisories, residents in these areas are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
In southwest Colorado, including Archuleta, Hinsdale, La Plata, and San Juan counties, a Flood Warning has been issued until midnight MDT Tuesday night. Excessive rainfall has led to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Emergency management reported flooding north of Vallecito Reservoir, with additional rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches possible in the warned area.
On the East Coast, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for eastern Massachusetts counties, including Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket. Up to half a foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways until 7 PM EDT this evening.
In Utah and Colorado, a Special Weather Statement has been issued due to a strong thunderstorm near Eastland, with wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail expected. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and cause minor hail damage to vegetation in the impacted areas.
Meanwhile, in Washington state, a Frost Advisory is in place for northwest and west-central regions, where temperatures as low as 32 to 36 degrees could result in frost formation, potentially harming sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Additionally, a Wind Advisory has been issued for lowlands in Western Whatcom County and San Juan County, with northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph until 2 PM PDT this afternoon.
In Nevada and California, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 11 PM PDT this evening, with south-southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds could lead to the blowing around of unsecured objects, tree limbs being blown down, and a few power outages, with blowing dust potentially causing localized rapid changes in visibility.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay updated on the latest alerts and heed the advice of local authorities to ensure their safety and well-being.
