The coastal flood advisory, issued for Humboldt Bay in California, warns of above-normal high tides due to the perigee moon cycle. The tides are expected to reach 8.03 feet MLLW on Thursday and 7.94 feet MLLW on Friday, with the potential for a positive tidal anomaly of 0.85 to 1.0 feet, resulting in a high tide of 9.0 feet at the North Spit. This could lead to flooding in low-lying areas around Humboldt Bay, impacting parks and roads.
On the other hand, freeze warnings have been issued for several counties in Maine and Pennsylvania. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees are expected in Coastal Hancock, Coastal Washington, Central Washington, Interior Hancock, and Southern Penobscot Counties in Maine. In Pennsylvania, temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s are forecasted for Sullivan, Lycoming, Clinton, Centre, Blair, Bedford, Fulton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Montour, Columbia, Schuylkill, and McKean Counties. These freezing conditions could harm crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.
Additionally, a frost advisory has been issued for counties in Pennsylvania, including Cambria, Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Potter, Somerset, Tioga, Warren, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York. Temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s are expected, leading to frost formation that could damage sensitive outdoor vegetation.
These weather events underscore the variability and unpredictability of climate patterns, with some regions experiencing coastal flooding while others face freezing temperatures. It is crucial for residents in these areas to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from the potential impacts of these extreme weather conditions.
