The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued High Surf and Coastal Flood Advisories for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, warning of dangerous conditions along the coastlines. Large breaking waves of up to 12 feet, with occasional higher waves in isolated areas, are expected, posing risks of beach erosion, rough surf, and dangerous swimming conditions. The advisories are in effect until 6 AM AST Monday, with a High Rip Current Risk continuing through Tuesday afternoon.

The most vulnerable areas for high surf and beach erosion include beaches in Aguada, Rincon, Culebra, St. Thomas, and St. John. The advisories highlight the potential for waves to wash over jetties, sweep people and pets onto rocks, and cause localized beach/dune structure erosion. Rip currents, in particular, can pose life-threatening risks by pulling swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
Additionally, a Wind Advisory has been issued for parts of California and Colorado, with gusts of up to 50 mph expected in certain areas. Gusty winds may lead to the blowing around of unsecured objects, downed tree limbs, and possible power outages. In South Dakota, a Special Weather Statement warns of elevated fire danger due to near-record high temperatures, strong winds, and dry vegetation, urging caution with outdoor activities that could spark fires.
In North Carolina, a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued for the Northern Outer Banks and Hatteras Island, respectively. The advisories warn of dangerous rip currents, large breaking waves, and minor oceanside coastal flooding, with potential impacts on swimmers and coastal properties.
These weather advisories underscore the importance of staying informed and taking precautions to ensure safety during adverse conditions. Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to heed the warnings, avoid unnecessary risks, and follow guidance from local authorities and emergency services.
