The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and Rip Current Statement for several counties along the Texas coastline, including Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands. The advisory warns of minor coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents, in effect from 7 PM this evening until 7 AM CDT Sunday.
The potential impacts of the Coastal Flood Advisory include flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures expected. Rip currents, on the other hand, can pose a significant risk to swimmers, even those experienced, by sweeping them away from shore into deeper waters, potentially leading to life-threatening situations.
In a similar vein, the NWS has also issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Maryland and Virginia, highlighting the presence of dangerous rip currents, rough surf conditions, and a high risk of localized beach erosion. The statement is effective through Friday evening, urging caution for beachgoers in these areas.
Furthermore, winter weather advisories have been put in place for Montana, with snow expected above 5500 feet. The advisory warns of minor to moderate winter weather impacts, including total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, disruptions to normal activities, hazardous traveling conditions, and potential closures and disruptions to infrastructure in backcountry areas.
In Glacier National Park, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for higher elevations, with heavy snow expected above 5500 feet. Major winter weather impacts are anticipated, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches and concerns for hypothermia due to cold, wet, and windy conditions. Considerable disruptions to normal activities, dangerous or impossible traveling conditions, and widespread closures and disruptions to infrastructure are expected.
Additionally, a Wind Advisory has been issued for Indian Wells Valley, Mojave Desert, and Mojave Desert Slopes in California, with west winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected until 5 AM PDT Saturday. The advisory warns of potential impacts such as blowing around unsecured objects, tree limb damage, power outages, and difficult driving conditions due to dust and lower visibility.
Lastly, a Flood Advisory has been issued for portions of east central Florida, including Martin and St. Lucie counties, due to excessive rainfall causing minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
As extreme weather events continue to impact various regions, it is crucial for residents and visitors to stay informed, heed warnings and advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
