As of September 30, 2021, coastal areas in the southeastern United States, specifically Georgia Beaches, Beaufort, Coastal Jasper, Coastal Colleton, and Charleston Counties, are experiencing adverse weather conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts, including a High Surf Advisory, High Rip Current Risk, and Coastal Flood Advisory, due to large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents.
The High Surf Advisory warns of waves ranging from 1 to 7 feet in the surf zone, posing risks to swimmers and surfers. The High Rip Current Risk emphasizes the potential danger of rip currents, which can swiftly carry individuals away from the shore into deeper waters. Additionally, the Coastal Flood Advisory predicts up to half a foot of inundation above ground level along shorelines and tidal waterways, leading to minor flooding of properties and impassable roads.
These weather conditions are expected to persist until October 4, with the impacts including dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, localized beach erosion, and the possibility of minor beach and dune erosion. The NWS advises caution to residents and visitors in these areas, urging them to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
In a separate weather event, parts of north central and northeast Nevada, including Eureka and Elko counties, are facing a Flood Advisory due to excessive rainfall. The advisory warns of minor flooding in low-lying areas and poor drainage regions, with debris flows from recent wildfires exacerbating the situation.
Furthermore, patchy dense fog has been observed in northeast Wisconsin, reducing visibility below half a mile at times. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, slow down, and use low beam headlights when encountering foggy conditions to prevent accidents.
These weather phenomena underscore the importance of staying informed about local weather alerts and heeding the advice of meteorological authorities to ensure personal safety and mitigate potential risks associated with extreme weather events.
