As the holiday season kicks off, several counties in Ohio are facing severe weather conditions, with Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact Thanksgiving holiday travel in the area. Similar conditions are reported in Summit County, with additional snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches expected, particularly in the northern parts of the county.
Northern Erie County is also experiencing lake effect snow, with additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches forecasted, mostly falling overnight. In Southern Erie and Crawford counties, heavy lake effect snow is occurring, with additional snow accumulations of 6 to 15 inches expected. The winds are gusting as high as 40 mph, creating whiteout conditions within snow bands and posing potential life-threatening risks to travelers.
Meanwhile, in Hanford, California, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for the San Joaquin Valley portion of Central California. Visibility is reduced to one quarter mile or less in dense fog, making driving conditions hazardous. Highways including Interstate 5 and various California State Routes are affected, urging caution among motorists.
In North Dakota, a Special Weather Statement warns of areas of fog reducing visibility to one quarter mile or less in parts of north-central North Dakota. Motorists are advised to be prepared for rapidly changing visibilities and to use extra caution while traveling. Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Southwest North Dakota, with snow expected to accumulate between 3 and 5 inches, impacting road conditions and commutes.
