As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, residents in parts of Ohio are bracing for heavy lake effect snow, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue several warnings across the state. The warnings, which are in effect from November 26 to November 29, highlight the potential for significant snow accumulations and hazardous travel conditions.
In Crawford, Northern Erie, and Southern Erie Counties, total snow accumulations between 6 and 19 inches are expected, with the heaviest snowfall south of I-90 in Erie County and the northern portion of Crawford County. Additionally, winds gusting as high as 50 mph could lead to whiteout conditions and treacherous travel, impacting Thanksgiving holiday travel plans.
Further south in Trumbull County, residents can expect total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches, with winds gusting up to 40 mph. The hazardous conditions could result in slippery road conditions, affecting travel from November 26 to November 28.
In Geauga, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, and Lake Counties, heavy lake effect snow is forecasted with total snow accumulations between 3 and 13 inches. The NWS warns of whiteout conditions, potentially life-threatening situations, and impacts on Thanksgiving holiday travel due to gusty winds and rapid snow accumulation.
Moreover, a Special Weather Statement issued in Pendleton, Oregon, highlights patchy dense fog along the base of the Blue Mountains, affecting sections of Oregon Highway 11 and Highway 12. The fog is expected to persist for several hours, with brief clearing in the afternoon and redevelopment overnight.
In Montana, Dense Fog Advisories have been issued for areas with visibility below a quarter mile, impacting driving conditions and potentially creating hazardous situations.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents to stay informed, exercise caution while traveling, and follow any guidance or instructions provided by local authorities. The safety and well-being of individuals should be the top priority during inclement weather conditions.
