As the weekend approaches, several states in the southern United States are facing a significant weather challenge in the form of dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Dense Fog Advisories for multiple regions, including New Orleans, LA, Louisville, KY, Raleigh, NC, Wakefield, VA, Newport/Morehead City, NC, Paducah, KY, and Wilmington, OH. These advisories warn of reduced visibility due to fog, which could make driving conditions hazardous.
In New Orleans, LA, visibility is expected to drop to one quarter mile or less until 9 AM CST on Saturday. A similar situation is unfolding in Louisville, KY, where moderate to heavy drizzle overnight is contributing to reduced visibility. The NWS Raleigh, NC, has also issued an advisory for central North Carolina, warning of visibility dropping to 1/4 mile or less in many areas, with some areas experiencing near-zero visibility in the Piedmont.
In Wakefield, VA, and Newport/Morehead City, NC, dense fog is expected to persist through the night, with visibilities reaching one quarter mile or less at times. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, drive slowly, and use low beam headlights to navigate safely through the foggy conditions.
Additionally, in Paducah, KY, strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail are forecasted, posing a risk of tree limb damage and minor hail damage to vegetation. The NWS Wilmington, OH, has also reported reduced visibility due to fog, with some patches bringing visibility down to one quarter mile or less.
The widespread Dense Fog Advisories highlight the importance of staying informed about weather conditions and taking necessary precautions while traveling. Motorists in the affected regions are advised to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and use low beam headlights to improve visibility.
As weather patterns continue to evolve, it is crucial for individuals to stay updated on the latest forecasts and advisories from credible sources like the NWS to ensure their safety and well-being.
