As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to warn residents of potential hazards. From thunderstorms to dense fog and high surf advisories, the country is experiencing a range of weather phenomena that require vigilance and preparedness.
In Southern California, a Flood Advisory has been issued for Southern Los Angeles County until 3:00 AM PST on November 21. The advisory warns of urban and small stream flooding due to excessive rainfall, with rainfall rates between 0.25 and 0.40 inches per hour observed in some locations. Residents are urged to be cautious of minor flooding in low-lying areas and poor drainage spots, with potential debris flows from the Palisades burn scar.
In the Pacific Northwest, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for all beaches of Douglas, Coos, and Curry Counties in Oregon until 4:00 AM PST on November 21. Large breaking waves of 20 to 25 feet are expected, creating hazardous conditions along the surf zone and potentially causing beach erosion and damage to exposed infrastructure.
Meanwhile, dense fog advisories have been issued for various regions across the country, including Coastal Volusia, Inland Northern Brevard, and Seminole in Florida, as well as portions of central, east central, and west central Indiana, and southwest Idaho. Visibility is reduced to a quarter mile or less in dense fog, making driving conditions hazardous until 10:00 AM local time.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed and heed the advice of local authorities and meteorologists. Being prepared for severe weather can help mitigate risks and ensure the safety of individuals and communities.
