As severe weather continues to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to warn residents of potential hazards. From flood advisories to dense fog and thunderstorms, these weather events pose risks to communities and individuals.
In southwest Arkansas, a Flood Advisory has been issued by the NWS Shreveport, Louisiana, due to excessive rainfall causing urban area and small stream flooding. The affected areas include central Hempstead and southeastern Howard counties, with minor flooding expected in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Doppler radar indicates heavy rain from thunderstorms, with additional rainfall amounts likely to exacerbate the flooding situation.
In Nebraska, a Special Weather Statement from the NWS Hastings warns of fog sliding south into the Highway 56 and Highway 92 corridor, reducing visibility to around 1 mile. Patchy dense fog may briefly reduce visibility to one quarter of a mile, creating hazardous driving conditions until 9:30 AM CST.
Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, a strong thunderstorm near Tatums has prompted a Special Weather Statement from the NWS Norman. Penny-sized hail is expected, with minor damage to outdoor objects possible in locations such as Davis, Wynnewood, and Elmore City.
In west central Texas, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the NWS San Angelo for northwestern Kimble County and eastern Sutton County. Thunderstorms producing heavy rain have already caused between 2 and 4 inches of rainfall, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, posing life-threatening risks to creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses.
Moreover, in Pennsylvania, the NWS Pittsburgh has issued advisories for freezing fog and dense fog in various regions, with visibility reductions making driving conditions hazardous until 10:00 AM EST.
As these severe weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and heed the warnings issued by the NWS. By being prepared and taking necessary precautions, individuals can mitigate risks and ensure their well-being during challenging weather conditions.
