As winter approaches, the United States is experiencing a variety of severe weather events, from snowstorms to floods and dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts across different regions, warning residents of potential hazards and urging caution.
In New Mexico, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Tusas Mountains, and Jemez Mountains. The advisory predicts snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches above 8500 feet, with higher totals near 10 inches likely across the highest peaks. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact travel, making commutes difficult and reducing tire traction.
Moving to Arizona, a Flood Advisory is in effect for Oak Creek in Oak Creek Canyon to Cornville. Heavy rainfall is causing minor flooding in creeks and normally dry washes, with additional rainfall expected to exacerbate the situation. The advisory includes warnings for specific highways, recreation areas, campgrounds, and swimming holes in the affected areas.
In Texas, a Flood Watch has been issued for western Central Texas, including counties like Bell, Bosque, and McLennan. Two rounds of heavy rain are forecasted, with the main threat being urban flooding and minor flooding of flood-prone locations. The watch area is expected to experience rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches, with isolated higher amounts up to 4 inches.
Additionally, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for portions of south central and southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. Visibility is expected to be one quarter mile or less in dense fog, making driving conditions hazardous. The advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to 8 AM CST Thursday.
As these severe weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed, heed the warnings from the NWS, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. By being prepared and vigilant, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with these weather phenomena.
