As severe weather continues to impact various regions, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts across different states, warning residents of potential hazards. From thunderstorms with hail and strong winds to high surf advisories and icy conditions, people are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
In Oklahoma, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for areas near Rush Springs, Alex, and Bradley. The storm, moving northeast at 35 mph, poses risks of golf ball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. The NWS highlights the potential for injuries to people and animals outdoors, as well as damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles.
In Hawaii, a high surf advisory is in effect for north and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. Surf heights of 10 to 15 feet along north-facing shores and 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores are expected until noon HST Thursday. The NWS warns of strong breaking waves and currents, making swimming dangerous.
In Arizona, a special weather statement alerts residents to a strong thunderstorm near Tempe, with wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny-sized hail. Gusty winds could cause damage to tree limbs and outdoor objects in areas including Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, and Scottsdale.
Meanwhile, in Texas, a severe thunderstorm warning near Lake Colorado City State Park indicates risks of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees are anticipated in locations like Champion Creek Reservoir.
Additionally, icy conditions are expected in higher terrain areas of Arizona, including Flagstaff, Show Low, and Williams. Temperatures near or below freezing, combined with earlier rain and snow showers, could lead to hazardous road conditions.
As extreme weather events become more frequent and intense, it is crucial for individuals to stay informed and prepared. Following safety guidelines, such as staying indoors during storms, avoiding water activities in high surf areas, and driving cautiously on icy roads, can help mitigate risks and ensure personal safety.
