As weather patterns continue to shift and intensify, various regions in the United States are currently facing significant weather-related challenges. Coastal flooding advisories and river flood warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in several states, highlighting the potential risks and impacts on communities.
In the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay areas, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued from November 6 at 5:06 PM PST until November 8 at 2:00 PM PST. The advisory warns of potential inundation up to 1.2 feet above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. While flooding of lots, parks, and roads is expected, only isolated road closures are anticipated.
Similarly, in Hawaii, a Coastal Flood Statement has been issued from November 6 at 3:06 PM HST until November 7 at 6:00 AM HST. The statement cautions about minor coastal flooding during high tide in low-lying coastal areas of all islands. The combination of peak monthly high tides and higher-than-predicted water levels may lead to flooding of beaches, minor coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation.
Moving to Washington state, a Flood Warning is in effect for the Skokomish River at Potlatch in Mason County until early Saturday morning. Minor flooding is already occurring, with moderate flooding forecasted. The river is expected to cause deep and quick floodwaters, inundating residential areas, roads, and farmland in the Skokomish Valley.
In addition to coastal and river flooding alerts, other weather-related advisories have been issued. A Dense Fog Advisory is in place for various areas in California’s Central Valley, warning of visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. Furthermore, a Wind Advisory has been issued in parts of Washington state, with south winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph potentially causing hazardous driving conditions.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to stay informed, follow guidance from local authorities, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Climate change is contributing to more frequent and severe weather events, underscoring the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of evolving environmental challenges.
