In the Pacific region, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Majuro, with minor coastal flooding of 1 to 2 feet expected along north and east facing reefs until Saturday. The combination of a building northeast trade-wind swell and high tides is leading to inundation of lots, parks, and roads, although only isolated road closures are anticipated. Additionally, a Flood Advisory has been issued for Guam due to excessive rainfall causing urban and small stream flooding, with up to 4 inches observed since morning and additional rainfall expected.
Moving to the West Coast, the NWS has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Northern Humboldt Coast County, where high astronomical tides and large surf are predicted to cause moderate flooding in low-lying areas. Up to one foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible, impacting coastal roads, low-lying property, and critical infrastructure. In Coastal Del Norte County, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for minor flooding, with up to one half foot of saltwater inundation expected near shorelines and tidal waterways.
In the Northeast, the NWS has issued a Wind Advisory for Litchfield County, the mid-Hudson Valley, and southern Taconics, with northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 to 45 mph expected until early morning. Additionally, a High Wind Warning has been issued for Mohawk Valley, Greater Capital District, southern VT, western Massachusetts, and northern and eastern Catskills, with west winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected, potentially causing downed trees, power outages, and travel difficulties.
These weather alerts highlight the diverse and impactful nature of weather-related events across the United States. As climate change continues to influence weather patterns, it is crucial for individuals, communities, and policymakers to prioritize resilience and adaptation strategies to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events.
