As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to warn residents about potential hazards. From coastal flooding to thunderstorms and snowstorms, the country is facing a range of weather-related challenges.
In the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay areas, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued from November 5 to November 8. The advisory warns of possible inundation up to 1.2 feet above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. While flooding of lots, parks, and roads is expected, only isolated road closures are anticipated.
Additionally, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the Coastal North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula Coast from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening. A long period westerly swell is predicted to result in an increased risk of sneaker waves, rip currents, and breaking waves of 14 to 19 feet, with the highest waves reaching up to 22 feet in favored locations.
Moving to the East Coast, severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for various counties in Maryland and Pennsylvania. The warnings highlight the potential for damaging winds of up to 60 mph, which could cause trees and large branches to fall, leading to injuries and property damage. Localized power outages and road blockages may also occur.
In the Pacific Northwest, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties in Washington. Heavy snowfall is expected, with additional accumulations of up to 8 to 12 inches along Highway 20 and 12 to 24 inches on Mount Baker. Travel conditions are likely to be very difficult to impossible, impacting commutes and posing hazards to residents.
As communities across the United States brace for these severe weather events, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and heed the warnings issued by the NWS. By taking proactive measures and following safety guidelines, individuals can mitigate risks and ensure their well-being during extreme weather conditions.
