The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and Beach Hazards Statement for the Clatsop and Tillamook Coasts, as well as the South Washington Coast. The advisory warns of tidal overflow flooding and the possibility of sneaker waves, with impacts expected until Wednesday afternoon.
The Coastal Flood Advisory, in effect from 10 AM to 2 PM PST on Wednesday, predicts minor flooding up to 1 foot above ground level during high tides in low-lying areas near bays, sloughs, and coastal rivers. Areas likely to experience flooding include portions of Highway 101 near Raymond, Seaside, and Fraser Road in Tillamook County.
Simultaneously, the Beach Hazards Statement highlights the risk of sneaker waves until 1 PM PST on Wednesday. Sneaker waves are sudden, powerful waves that can catch beachgoers off guard, potentially leading to dangerous situations.
These weather advisories are crucial for public safety, as they provide advance warning of hazardous conditions along the coastlines. Residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution, stay away from the water’s edge, and be prepared for potential flooding in vulnerable areas.
In another weather-related development, the NWS Cheyenne has issued a Fire Weather Watch for specific fire weather zones in Wyoming. The watch, effective from Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon, warns of westerly winds sustained at 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and humidity levels between 12 to 15 percent. These conditions increase the risk of rapid fire spread, prompting a recommendation against outdoor burning.
As climate change continues to impact weather patterns, it is essential for individuals and communities to stay informed about potential hazards and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
