In a series of unusual weather events, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued various advisories across several states, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and California. The NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC issued a Wind Advisory for Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey Counties, with northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph until 8 AM EDT. The advisory warns of potential power outages and tree damage due to the gusty winds blowing unsecured objects around.
Simultaneously, Freeze and Frost Advisories were issued for different counties in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The Freeze Warning for Rabun County in Georgia and various counties in North Carolina warns of sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees, potentially damaging crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing. The Frost Advisory for northeast Georgia, Piedmont North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina cautions of temperatures as low as 35 degrees, leading to frost formation that could harm outdoor vegetation.
Additionally, a Freeze Watch was issued for northeast Georgia, Piedmont and western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 33 degrees expected late tonight through Saturday morning. Similar impacts on crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing are anticipated.
In a separate advisory, the NWS Columbia SC issued a Frost Advisory for portions of east central Georgia and central South Carolina, with temperatures as low as 36 degrees expected to cause frost formation, potentially harming sensitive outdoor vegetation.
Moreover, the NWS Charleston WV issued a High Surf Advisory for San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches in California, warning of large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet and dangerous rip currents until 11 AM PDT Friday. The advisory emphasizes the increased risk of ocean drowning and other hazards associated with the high surf conditions.
