A High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Risk have been issued for coastal areas in Alabama and Florida, posing potential dangers for beachgoers and surfers. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has warned of large breaking waves ranging from 4 to 6 feet in the surf zone, along with dangerous rip currents. The advisory is in effect until 10 PM CDT Sunday, with the Rip Current Risk extending through Monday afternoon.
The impacted areas include Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, as well as Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida. The NWS highlights the potential for dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, localized beach erosion, and the risk of rip currents sweeping swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Additionally, the combination of high surf and high tide during the evenings may lead to overwash and minor inundation in portions of Dauphin Island and Fort Pickens.
In a separate weather alert, a Frost Advisory has been issued for parts of Maryland and Pennsylvania, with temperatures as low as 33 to 34 degrees expected to result in frost formation. Sensitive outdoor vegetation in Cecil, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Southeast Harford, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York Counties may be at risk of harm if left uncovered.
Furthermore, Special Weather Statements have been issued for Texas and Louisiana, warning of strong thunderstorms and hail in certain areas. The NWS in Austin/San Antonio, TX, and Lake Charles, LA, have reported the potential for winds exceeding 40 mph, half-inch hail, and minor damage to vegetation and outdoor objects.
As weather patterns continue to shift and intensify, it is crucial for residents and visitors in these regions to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Monitoring updates from reliable sources like the NWS and adhering to any advisories or warnings issued can help mitigate risks associated with severe weather events.
