As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to warn residents about potential hazards. From high surf advisories to severe thunderstorm warnings, these alerts serve as crucial information for individuals to stay safe and prepared.
In California, a High Surf Advisory has been issued for San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches. Large breaking waves of 8 to 11 feet, with local max sets to 13 feet, are expected until 3 AM PDT Monday. Dangerous rip currents accompany the high surf, posing an increased risk for ocean drowning and other water-related incidents.
In Texas, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for areas near Maryneal, with a strong thunderstorm moving northeast at 40 mph. Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half-inch hail are expected, potentially causing damage to tree limbs and unsecured objects. Locations impacted include Sweetwater, Blackwell, Nolan, and Merkel, among others.
Meanwhile, a Wind Advisory has been issued for the foothills of the Blue Mountains in Washington, with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph expected. Gusty winds may result in the blowing around of unsecured objects, tree limb damage, and a few power outages.
In Puerto Rico, a Flood Advisory has been issued for Catano, Guaynabo, and San Juan, which expired at 515 PM AST. The heavy rain has ended, and urban and small stream flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Residents are advised to continue heeding any remaining road closures.
Additionally, a Wind Advisory has been issued for the Mojave Desert Slopes in California, with west winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected. Similar to other advisories, residents should prepare for gusty winds that may cause damage to unsecured objects and result in power outages.
As severe weather events unfold across the United States, it is essential for individuals to stay informed, heed official warnings, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
