As severe weather conditions continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of alerts to warn residents about potential hazards. From heavy snow showers in Montana to wind advisories in California, flood warnings in Arizona, and dense fog in Nebraska, a diverse range of weather-related challenges are currently unfolding.
In Montana, a special weather statement issued by the NWS Great Falls alerts residents to a heavy snow shower moving northward along the divide, affecting areas around Flesher and Rogers Pass. Visibility is expected to fall below a quarter of a mile, with new snow accumulations of around half an inch likely. Travelers on Highway 200 over Rogers Pass and through the Lincoln area are advised to be cautious due to quickly changing road conditions.
Meanwhile, in California, a wind advisory issued by the NWS San Diego warns of south winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in San Diego County Coastal Areas and San Diego County Valleys. The advisory is in effect until 3 PM PDT, with potential impacts including blowing around unsecured objects, downed tree limbs, and power outages.
In Arizona, a flood warning issued by the NWS Phoenix for low water crossings along Tonto Creek in Gila County highlights the imminent or occurring flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. The warning is in effect until 9:00 PM MST Tuesday, with water levels already above action stage, causing flooding in the warned area.
Additionally, a flood watch issued by the NWS Grand Junction in Colorado warns of possible flooding caused by excessive rainfall in the Animas River Basin, San Juan River Basin, and Southwest San Juan Mountains until midnight MDT. The watch emphasizes the potential for excessive runoff leading to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.
In Nebraska, a dense fog advisory issued by the NWS North Platte alerts residents to visibility of one quarter mile or less in dense fog across central, north central, panhandle, southwest, and west central Nebraska. The advisory is in effect from 8 PM MDT this evening to 10 AM MDT Wednesday, with hazardous driving conditions expected.
Finally, a flash flood warning issued by the NWS Tiyan for Guam warns of ongoing or imminent flash flooding caused by heavy rain. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicate heavy rainfall across the area, with flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, and streets expected.
As these severe weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents to stay informed, heed warnings from local authorities, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
