As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts warning residents of potential flooding, snowstorms, and coastal flooding. These alerts are crucial in helping communities prepare and stay safe during extreme weather conditions.
In Guam and Rota, a Flood Watch has been issued due to excessive rainfall caused by a passing tropical disturbance, Invest 96W. The NWS Tiyan GU warns of heavy showers and thunderstorms that could result in localized flash flooding, particularly in central or southern Guam. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible over Guam and Rota through early Thursday morning.
In Northern Ventura County Mountains, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect with snow expected at elevations around 6000 feet. Up to 3 inches of snow accumulation is possible, leading to slippery road conditions. The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA advises residents to exercise caution while traveling in the area.
In east central Arizona, a Flood Warning has been issued along and near Tonto Creek, where heavy rain over the past 24 hours has caused a significant rise in water levels. Flooding of creeks and normally dry washes is expected, with low water crossings likely to be inundated. The NWS Flagstaff AZ urges residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
Northern and Central Nevada are facing a Winter Storm Warning, with heavy snowfall expected in the Ruby Mountains and East Humboldt Range. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 15 inches are forecasted, accompanied by gusty winds up to 50 mph. Travel is expected to be extremely difficult or nearly impossible in these areas, with snow-covered roads posing a significant hazard.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for several counties in Virginia, including Charles City, Surry, and Newport News. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is anticipated in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, potentially causing shallow flooding and property damage.
As these weather events unfold, it is essential for residents to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and heed the advice of local authorities. By being prepared and proactive, communities can mitigate the risks associated with severe weather conditions.
