As severe weather events continue to impact various regions, multiple alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) across California and beyond. From flood advisories to winter storm warnings and dense fog advisories, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
In central California, a Flood Advisory has been issued for Fresno County until 9:30 AM PDT. Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms has led to minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, with up to 1 inch of rain already fallen. Locations such as Mountain Rest, Shaver Lake, and Auberry are expected to experience flooding, prompting residents to be vigilant and prepared for potential water over roadways.
Meanwhile, in the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada County, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 5 AM PDT Wednesday. Snow is expected above 6500 feet, with additional accumulations of 3 to 6 inches along the I-80 and Highway 50 corridors. South of Highway 50, 1-2 feet of snow is forecasted, leading to slippery road conditions that could impact commutes.
In southwest California, including Los Angeles and Ventura counties, another Flood Advisory is in place until 8:00 AM PDT. Doppler radar has indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms, with additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch expected to cause minor flooding in the area. Locations like Long Beach, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley are at risk of experiencing flooding, emphasizing the need for caution and preparedness.
Additionally, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for Ojai, Carpinteria, and other areas near Los Angeles, warning of wind gusts up to 50 mph that could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The NWS urges residents in these locations to stay indoors and secure any loose items to prevent potential damage.
Beyond California, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Barton, Ellsworth, Rice, Russell, Harper, Kingman, and Reno Counties in Kansas until 10 AM CDT. Low visibility due to dense fog could create hazardous driving conditions, emphasizing the need for caution on the roads.
In Alaska, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for the Kuskokwim Delta coast, with easterly to southeasterly winds gusting up to 35-45 mph expected. While little to no coastal flooding is anticipated, residents are advised to secure loose debris and move items away from the coast to higher ground.
Lastly, a Heat Advisory is in place for urban and coastal areas of Puerto Rico, as well as the eastern interior of Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands until 5 PM AST. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses, highlighting the importance of staying hydrated and cool during the heatwave.
As severe weather events continue to unfold across various regions, it is crucial for residents to stay informed, heed official warnings, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
