As severe weather patterns continue to sweep across various states, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts for thunderstorms, high winds, and coastal flooding. These weather events pose significant risks to communities and individuals, prompting authorities to urge caution and preparedness.
In Utah, severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued by the NWS Salt Lake City for areas including Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Lake Powell, and surrounding counties. The warnings highlight the potential hazards of two-inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts, which can cause injuries to people and animals outdoors, as well as damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Additionally, a wind advisory has been issued for western and central North Dakota, with expected west to northwest winds of 30 to 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. Objects left unsecured outside may be blown around, posing a risk to property and safety. Individuals in the affected areas are advised to secure loose items and be cautious of the strong winds.
On the East Coast, coastal flood advisories have been issued for areas along the Cape Fear River in North Carolina, including downtown Wilmington and southward. The advisories warn of up to one half foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor coastal flooding may occur, impacting roads and causing water to spread out of storm drains.
Furthermore, dangerous rip currents are expected in coastal Horry and Georgetown Counties in South Carolina, posing a threat to swimmers and beachgoers. The NWS Wilmington advises individuals to be cautious of the strong currents, which can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
As severe weather events continue to unfold, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and heed warnings from local authorities. By taking proactive measures and staying prepared, communities can mitigate risks and ensure their well-being during extreme weather conditions.
