In recent weather updates, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple flood watches across various states in the western United States due to excessive rainfall. The regions affected include northern and central Arizona, parts of Colorado, Utah, and Kansas, as well as the Florida Keys. The flood watches are expected to last from today until the weekend, with the potential for flooding in creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and urban regions.
The flood watches are a result of deep sub-tropical moisture moving over the affected areas, leading to the possibility of flooding in normally dry washes, swimming holes, and low-water crossings. The NWS has warned that creeks and streams may rise out of their banks, creating hazardous travel conditions. Excessive runoff could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and other flood-prone locations, with rainfall totals expected to reach up to 1 to 2 inches in some areas.
In addition to the flood watches, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for parts of Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in dense fog. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, slow down, and use low beam headlights to ensure safe travel.
Furthermore, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for the Florida Keys, warning of saltwater flooding in low elevation streets and lots. The advisory highlights the potential for overtopping of seawalls and docks, as well as less clearance under fixed bridges for boaters.
These weather events underscore the importance of staying informed and prepared for changing weather conditions. Residents in the affected areas are urged to monitor local weather updates, follow any evacuation orders or advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
