As severe weather continues to impact various regions in the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple flash flood warnings in different states. These warnings highlight the imminent threat of flash flooding caused by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, posing risks to communities and infrastructure.
In northeastern Kentucky and southeastern Ohio, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for areas including Boyd County, Greenup County, and Lawrence County. Doppler radar and rain gauges have indicated heavy rain, with between 1.5 and 2.3 inches already fallen. The warning emphasizes the potential for flash flooding in small creeks, urban areas, highways, and low-lying regions.
Similarly, central Kentucky, specifically Harrison and Nicholas counties, is under a Flood Advisory due to excessive rainfall. Doppler radar has detected heavy rain from thunderstorms, with between 1.5 and 2 inches of rainfall already recorded. The advisory warns of minor flooding in low-lying areas and over roadways, with additional rainfall expected to exacerbate the situation.
In Puerto Rico, the NWS has issued a Flood Advisory for Guanica, Sabana Grande, and Yauco, where urban and small stream flooding is anticipated due to heavy rainfall. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, with additional rainfall expected to cause further flooding in the area.
Furthermore, northern Kentucky, including Bracken and Robertson counties, is also under a Flood Advisory as radar indicates heavy rain from thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected, with additional rainfall amounts likely to worsen conditions in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
In addition to the flood warnings, a Rip Current Statement has been issued for Kings, Suffolk, and Queens counties in New York, warning of dangerous rip currents that pose a threat to beachgoers. The statement advises individuals to stay out of the surf to avoid potentially life-threatening situations.
As these weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to stay informed, heed official warnings, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The NWS continues to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.
