The National Weather Service (NWS) has recently issued multiple flash flood warnings across several states, including Kentucky, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. These warnings come as a result of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that have caused significant amounts of precipitation in a short period.
In northeastern Kentucky and southeastern Ohio, the NWS has extended a Flash Flood Warning until 10:15 AM EDT due to thunderstorms producing heavy rain. Between 3.5 and 5 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch possible, leading to flash flooding in various areas. Similarly, in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued until 11:45 AM EDT, with 1 to 2 inches of rain already fallen and an expected rainfall rate of 1.5 to 3 inches in one hour.
The impact of these flash floods includes flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying areas. Locations such as Ashland, Ironton, Fall River, Taunton, Newport, and Dartmouth are expected to experience flash flooding, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
Additionally, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for New Bedford, Massachusetts, warning of heavy rainfall exceeding 1-3 inches per hour. While the impact is considered minimal, water on roads that flood easily may pose risks, potentially leading to a flash flood warning.
In contrast, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with patchy dense fog expected to linger through mid-morning. Motorists are advised to anticipate rapidly changing and poor visibilities, emphasizing the importance of driving cautiously and using low beam headlights.
These weather events highlight the importance of staying informed and prepared for changing conditions, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. By heeding warnings from credible sources like the NWS, individuals can take proactive measures to ensure their safety and minimize risks associated with severe weather.
