As the seasons transition and weather patterns shift, various parts of the United States are currently experiencing severe weather conditions. From dense fog to flooding and thunderstorms, residents in different regions are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
In the far northeast plains, a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver, Colorado, warns of areas of fog persisting through mid-morning. Some locations may experience patchy dense fog with visibility dropping below half a mile at times, potentially impacting travel and outdoor activities.
Moving to the southern panhandle of Alaska, a Flood Advisory issued by the NWS in Juneau highlights the continuous moderate to heavy rainfall affecting the Ketchikan area. An Atmospheric River remains focused on the region, leading to flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, water over roadways, and possible isolated landslides in steep terrain. Emergency management reports heavy rain with minor flooding already occurring, with additional rainfall expected before Saturday morning.
In Oklahoma, a Special Weather Statement from the NWS in Tulsa alerts residents to strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Narcissa to Adair. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible, which could knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Several locations, including Pensacola, Vinita, and Langley, are in the path of these storms, with Interstate 44 also potentially affected.
Additionally, areas in North Carolina and Nebraska are facing challenges due to dense fog. A Dense Fog Advisory by the NWS in Newport/Morehead City covers counties like Duplin, Greene, and Pitt, warning of visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less. Similarly, a Special Weather Statement from the NWS in Hastings, Nebraska, mentions patchy fog with visibility as low as a quarter mile near and east of Highway 281.
As the weather continues to fluctuate, residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated on local forecasts, heed warnings from authorities, and take necessary safety measures. Whether it’s reducing speed while driving in foggy conditions, preparing for potential flooding, or securing outdoor objects during thunderstorms, being proactive can help mitigate risks and ensure personal well-being.
