The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple high wind and coastal flood advisories across different regions, impacting various areas in the United States. These advisories warn residents of potential hazards such as strong winds, flooding, and dangerous surf conditions.
In the City and Borough of Yakutat, Southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Similar conditions are forecasted for Eastern Chichagof Island, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait, City and Borough of Sitka, Western Kupreanof Island, and Kuiu Island, with Southeast winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. Prince of Wales Island and Annette Island will also experience high winds with gusts up to 60 mph from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Accomack County, where large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet in the surf zone, a high risk of rip currents, and up to one foot of inundation above ground level are expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Similar conditions are in place for Northampton County, Virginia Beach, and Eastern Currituck County, with varying levels of coastal flooding and high surf advisories.
These weather events can have significant impacts, including blowing around unsecured objects, property damage, power outages, and difficult travel conditions. Shallow flooding is expected in vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline, posing a low threat of property damage and potentially closing roads. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions are also anticipated, along with localized beach erosion.
It is crucial for residents in these areas to stay informed about the weather conditions, follow any evacuation orders or safety guidelines issued by local authorities, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the protection of property.
