As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts for thunderstorms, air quality, and coastal flooding. These alerts serve as crucial warnings to help individuals and communities prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
In South Dakota, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for areas near Morristown and Lemmon, with the possibility of ping pong ball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. This severe thunderstorm poses a risk of injuries to people and animals outdoors, as well as damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. The storm is expected to affect mainly rural areas of northwestern Corson County.
In Montana, a Special Weather Statement warns of a strong thunderstorm near Plentywood, with winds exceeding 40 mph and penny-sized hail. Gusty winds could lead to tree limb damage and minor outdoor object damage in locations such as Plentywood, Westby, and Reserve.
Meanwhile, in Tennessee, an Air Quality Alert has been issued for Shelby County, Crittenden County, and DeSoto County due to forecasted unhealthy ozone levels. Sensitive groups, including active children and adults with respiratory diseases like asthma, are advised to limit outdoor exertion until air quality improves.
On the East Coast, Coastal Flood Advisories and Beach Hazards Statements have been issued for areas along Bogue Banks beaches, Bogue Sound, Newport and White Oak Rivers, and North Topsail Beach in North Carolina. Inundation above ground level and dangerous rip currents pose threats to low-lying areas and beachgoers, highlighting the importance of caution and preparedness.
These weather alerts underscore the significance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions during severe weather events. By heeding the guidance provided by the NWS and local authorities, individuals can better protect themselves and their communities from potential risks and impacts.
