As severe weather events continue to impact various regions of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple alerts to warn residents and visitors about potential hazards. From coastal floods to thunderstorms and flash floods, the alerts highlight the importance of staying informed and prepared during adverse weather conditions.
In Southern Fairfield County, a Coastal Flood Statement has been issued, predicting up to half a foot of inundation above ground level in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. This warning is in effect until 5:00 PM EDT on September 12, coinciding with the high tide cycle in the afternoon.
Moving to North Dakota, the NWS Grand Forks has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, with the potential for two-inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Locations impacted include Cando, Leeds, Egeland, Knox, York, Considine, and Maza. Additionally, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for northwestern Benson County and southwestern Towner County, with heavy rain causing flash flooding of small creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and underpasses.
In Alabama, a Special Weather Statement warns of a strong thunderstorm near Russellville, with wind gusts up to 40 mph. Locations impacted include Russellville, Phil Campbell, Isbell, Duketon, Spruce Pine, and Rockwood.
Further east, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the beaches north of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, warning of dangerous rip currents that can sweep swimmers away from shore. The statement is in effect from 7:00 AM EDT through the evening, with the most likely time for strong rip currents occurring around low tide.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for areas along the lower Neuse River, Pamlico, Core and Back Sounds, and adjacent tidal creeks in North Carolina. Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible, posing a low threat of property damage and shallow flooding in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
As these severe weather events unfold, it is crucial for residents and visitors in the affected areas to stay vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and heed the advice of local authorities. By staying informed and prepared, individuals can mitigate risks and ensure their safety during extreme weather conditions.
