Over the past few days, several severe weather events have been impacting different states across the United States. From flash floods to strong thunderstorms, the National Weather Service (NWS) has been issuing warnings to keep residents informed and safe.
In East Central Pennsylvania, a Flood Warning was issued by NWS Mount Holly NJ, indicating excessive rainfall causing flooding in areas like Reading, Birdsboro, and Wernersville. Doppler radar showed slow-moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, resulting in 2 to 4 inches of rain. While no additional rainfall was expected, flooding impacts were still a concern.
In Oklahoma, a Special Weather Statement was issued by NWS Norman OK, warning of a strong thunderstorm over Buffalo with wind gusts of 40 mph and half-inch hail. The storm was moving east at 15 mph, potentially causing minor damage to outdoor objects.
Similarly, in Nevada, a Flash Flood Warning was issued by NWS Las Vegas NV, but the floodwaters had receded, and the threat was no longer present. However, road closures were still in effect, urging caution to residents.
Kansas also experienced a strong thunderstorm, as reported by NWS Dodge City KS, near Bloom with wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel-sized hail. The storm was moving east at 15 mph, posing risks of tree limb damage and minor hail damage to vegetation.
In Lehigh and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania, another Flood Warning was issued by NWS Mount Holly NJ, with 2 to 3 inches of rain already fallen. Similar to the previous warning, slow-moving thunderstorms were the cause of flooding impacts in areas like Allentown and Bethlehem.
Lastly, in Arizona, a Flash Flood Warning was issued by NWS Phoenix AZ, but the heavy rain had ceased, and the threat of flooding had diminished. A Flood Watch remained in effect for parts of southwest Arizona and California until midnight.
These weather events serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Mother Nature and the importance of staying informed and prepared. It is crucial for residents in these areas to heed the warnings issued by the NWS and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
